SAN JOSE, Calif. – On November 1, TIBCO Software Inc. announced it has completed the acquisition of  Cisco’s Data Virtualization (DV) business.

This transaction adds data virtualization capabilities to TIBCO’s product portfolio to provide customers and partners a more complete solution.

As a worldwide technology leader, Cisco continually re-evaluates its portfolio and makes shifts that best position the company to meet its long-term strategic goals. Cisco remains committed to enterprise software and data analytics as part of its ongoing business strategy.

Q: Why did Cisco choose TIBCO?

A: Cisco’s main priority was to select a buyer with a strong complementary portfolio and experience supporting enterprise customer needs. We are confident TIBCO is a great home for our customers and the DV employees. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition for our customers and to provide continued support through this transition.

Q: Can you explain Cisco’s DV offering? Which organization did this team report to?

A:  Cisco’s Data Virtualization (DV) business provided software that integrates Big Data, Cloud, IoT and Enterprise data across multiple data repositories to enable analytics and insights. Within Cisco, this team ultimately reported into Rowan Trollope, SVP/GM, IoT and Applications.

Q: Was Cisco previously working with TIBCO and if so, in what capacity?

A: Cisco’s DV business unit previously had a historical OEM relationship with TIBCO, and therefore both companies have a high degree of familiarity with each other’s products.

Q: Why is now the right time for this transaction?

A: As a worldwide technology leader, Cisco continually re-evaluates its portfolio and makes shifts that best position the company to meet its long-term strategic goals. This transaction is in response to our continually evolving priorities. We believe the DV business can better serve customers as a part of a complementary portfolio such as TIBCO’s. Cisco remains committed to the enterprise software and data analytics space as part of its ongoing business strategy.

Effective November 1, 2017, technical support for Data Virtualization products transitioned to TIBCO.  Customers and partners can open support cases for Data Virtualization products using the TIBCO Customer Support Portal.
