Setting LLDP MED Network Policy
An LLDP-MED network policy is a related set of configuration settings with an attached ID. This set is loaded into an LLDP-MED TLV and sent to whoever is connected to the switch, so that it will use this information to configure itself, meaning that it will send traffic as requested in the network policy. For example, a policy can be created for VoIP phones, which instructs them to send voice traffic on VLAN 10, tagged, with DSCP=63, and to transmit data-traffic to the switch (from the PC that is connected through the VoIP phone) with no modifications to how the PC sent it (typically, Untagged).
LLDP-MED is an extension of LLDP, therefore, in order to activate LLDP-MED on an interface, LLDP must be also activated on it (performed in LLDP Port Settings Page). LLDP- MED is enabled by default.
To define a LLDP MED network policy:
Click Administration > Discovery - LLDP > LLDP MED Network Policy. The LLDP MED Network Policy Page opens.
This page displays previously-created network policies.
Click Add and the Add LLDP MED Network Policy Page opens.
This page enables the definition of new policies and contains the following fields:
- Network Policy Number Select the number of the policy to be created.
- Application Select the type of application (type of traffic) that exists on the port.
- VLAN ID Enter the VLAN ID to which the application applies.
- VLAN Tag Select whether the VLAN is tagged or untagged.
- User Priority Select the Layer 2 traffic priority that the sender will associate with his traffic. For instance, this can be used to order the priority between voice and data traffic.
- DSCP Value Select a DSCP value to associate with data sent. This informs the neighbor what it should mark on the traffic it sends to the switch that belongs to the selected application.
- Click Apply. Then associate the policy with a port (in the LLDP MED Port Settings Page).
