Cisco Eos Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cisco Eos?
Cisco Eos is a hosted, white-label software platform that enables Media and Entertainment (M&E) companies to create and deliver a community-driven entertainment experience online. Media companies can use the Eos software platform to build interactive and immersive communities around their content and brands.
Who is using Cisco Eos?
Eos was built as a solution for M&E companies interested in creating new and engaging entertainment experiences for their online audiences.
How is Cisco Eos different from other social networking services?
Unlike many early social networking services, Eos was built specifically for the entertainment experience; where the social object for people to interact with and around is professional entertainment content. As such, Eos-powered websites are fully customizable so that media companies can deploy the features and presentation that best serve their audience and brand.
Does Cisco understand this market?
Networks are fundamental in connecting audiences to entertainment content. For 20 years, Cisco has worked closely with companies in the distribution of online content and video. With Eos, Cisco continues to build more intelligence into the network to create new platforms, experiences, and value for its customers.
Is Cisco developing entertainment content?
No. Content on Eos will come from the media companies themselves, as well any user-generated content (UGC) that is uploaded to a site. Professional content will be offered in conjunction with UGC for a more immersive entertainment experience.
Who is the team that developed Eos?
Eos was developed by the Cisco Media Solutions Group (CMSG), an internal Cisco startup led by Dan Scheinman, Senior Vice President and General Manager. Scheinman previously led Cisco’s Corporate Development team and was responsible for overseeing the merger and acquisition, venture investment, and strategic alliance functions within Cisco. Under his leadership, Cisco extended its focus to the consumer space with the acquisitions of Linksys and Scientific Atlanta. Meet the CMSG Team
Is Eos targeted toward a business or consumer market?
Eos is a business to business to consumer play. Cisco is selling Eos to M&E companies, who then offer the software-as-a-service (SaaS) on their consumer-facing websites. Through Eos, Cisco strives to offer a unified administrative experience for businesses that is scalable, flexible and easy to use. At the same time, Eos provides the desired social networking and social media features, along with the personalized content desired by consumers.
Why Eos and why now?
The digitization of content and the widespread availability of broadband to distribute that content has created a disruption to the business of Media & Entertainment. As a result of this disruption there is currently a gap between M&E companies and consumers; media companies are having trouble reaching their audience and consumers are struggling to find relevant content. Cisco Eos helps M&E companies bridge this gap by enabling them to:
- Create and manage online communities built around their content
- Deliver a new, more immersive and engaging entertainment experience to their audiences
- Aggregate user data and preferences across Eos-powered communities
- Present a more personalized entertainment experience by delivering relevant content to consumers based on interests and preferences
What does the phrase "Content Finds You" mean?
With the overwhelming amount of entertainment content now available, the problem isn’t having anything to watch, it’s finding the content that interests you most. Cisco believes that an intelligent network should be able to deliver relevant and interesting content directly to you, even if you don’t know that it exists or where it’s located.
Why is Cisco the right company for media companies to partner with?
Cisco has a long tradition of partnering and adding value to industries going through significant changes. Cisco has complementary assets to M&E companies to help them more effectively reach and engage their online audiences.
