Date: 04/10/2014 (mm/dd/yyyy) Readme for Metadata Framework Package 1.89 This Readme is for Metadata Framework (Mdf) Package Version 1.89 and contains the following sections: + Prerequisites + Overview + Installing Mdf Package + New Device Types Defined in Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip + Resolved Problems in Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip Prerequisites ============= This package requires CiscoWorks Common Services 3.0 or a higher version. Overview ======== Meta Data Framework (Mdf) Package defines device types in a uniform way across CiscoWorks applications. Mdf Package allows you to add new device types to the existing set of device types defined in CS 3.0 or a higher version. For a detailed list of new device types in this package, see New Device Types Defined in Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip section. Note: Addition of new device types through Mdf Package does not guarantee support for these device types in all the CiscoWorks applications. Device support has to be provided by individual applications such as DFM, RME and Campus Manager. For a list of supported device types, see the relevant Product documentation. Installing Mdf Package ====================== To install the Mdf Package, you can use either of these two options: 1. Installing From CiscoWorks Software Center or 2.Installing From a Local Directory on CiscoWorks Server Installing From CiscoWorks Software Center ------------------------------------------ To install Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip from CiscoWorks Software Center: 1. Go to the CiscoWorks Homepage and select Common Services > Software Center > Device Update. 2. Select Cisco Works Common Services check box, and click Check for Updates. 3. Go to the Source Location page, select Cisco.com and click Next. To access the Proxy Server Setup page, go to the CiscoWorks Homepage and select Common Services > Server > Security > Cisco.com Connection Management > Proxy Server Setup. The Proxy Server Setup page appears. Enter the required information in the page to configure your Proxy Server settings. 4. Select Mdf, and click Next. Note: You can either choose to install directly or download to a local directory. If you choose to download, you can install the package later, as mentioned under Installing From a Local Directory on CiscoWorks Server section. 5. Select Install Device Packages, and click Next. A popup window with installation summary appears. 6. Click Finish. A popup window appears with warnings and installation details. Go through the text and click OK to start the installation. Any one of the following error messages appears: Page Cannot be Displayed Page Not Found Cannot Find Server or DNS This is specific to Software Center when the Daemon Manager restarts, which may take a few minutes. 7. Close the browser window and log into CiscoWorks again. You can check the installation status from the CiscoWorks Homepage by selecting Common Services > Software Center > Activity Log > Event Log. Installing From a Local Directory on CiscoWorks Server ------------------------------------------------------ To Download the Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip package to any local directory on your CiscoWorks server : 1. Click http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/navigator.html?a=a&i=rpm You must be a registered Cisco.com user to access this Software Download site. The site prompts you to enter your Cisco.com username and password in the login screen, if you have not logged in already. 2. Select the Software Product Category as Network Management and Automation . 3. Select Routing and Switching Management > Network Management Solutions > CiscoWorks Common Services Software > CiscoWorks Common Services Software 3.3 from the product tree. 4. Select the application version from the Latest Releases folder. The corresponding Device Package display at the right of the web page. 5. Click the Download Now button to download and save the device package file to any local directory on CiscoWorks Server. You can use one of the following methods to install Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip from the local directory: 1. Installing Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip From CiscoWorks User Interface 2. Installing Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip Using PSU Command Line Installing Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip From CiscoWorks User Interface ------------------------------------------------------------ To Install Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip from the CiscoWorks User Interface: 1. From CiscoWorks Homepage, go to Common Services > Software Center > Device Update from the CiscoWorks homepage. 2. Select Cisco Works Common Services check box and click Check for Updates. 3. Go to Source Location page, select Enter Server Path, enter the path to Mdf.CS30.v1-89.zip file stored in the local directory and click Next. 4. Select Mdf and click Next. 5. Enter the following commands to install the Mdf package. a. On Solaris: NMSROOT/bin/PSUCli.sh -p cmf -install -src local directory Mdf b. On Windows: NMSROOT\bin\PSUCli -p cmf -install -src local directory Mdf Replace NMSROOT with the actual path of the CiscoWorks installation directory.
