READ ME FIRST Last Revised: June 20, 2012 =================================================================== Cisco Digital Media Manager Server BIOS Patch for CSCtz28796 =================================================================== The DMM_CSCtz28796.ISO utility helps to prevent unexpected DMM server shutdown, as described at http://tools.cisco.com/squish/c132d. ______________________________ ::::::: LIMITATIONS :::::::::: Do not use this patch on any DMM server chassis except MCS 7835-H3. Make sure that the appliance serial number is earlier than (lower than) xxx 947 xxxx. Back up all configuration settings and content from your DMM Appliance. a. Log in to the Appliance Administration Interface (AAI) as admin. b. Choose BACKUP_AND_RESTORE > BACKUP > CONTENT+CONFIG, and then choose OK. c. Choose where to store the backup. d. Choose BACK UP ONCE (NOW). After a message states that the backup is finished, make sure that it finished successfully. e. Choose BACKUP_AND_RESTORE > SHOW_BACKUP_LOG. f. Press your right arrow key ( -> ) to scroll horizontally to the right. The newest log entry should end with the word "Successful." g. Choose EXIT to dismiss the backup log. 2. Upgrade your DMM appliance firmware. a. Download the compressed "firmware-9.30-0.zip" archive from http://tools.cisco.com/squish/944149. b. Open the archive. c. Save a local copy of the firmware ISO and validate its MD5. d. Burn the ISO to a DVD and insert the finished DVD into your DMM appliance. e. Use AAI to restart your DMM appliance. Your DMM appliance boots from the DVD, which runs automatically. Installation of your new firmware takes approximately 20 minutes. f. Eject the DVD manually when the firmware installation is finished. ___________________________________ :::::::::: PROCEDURES ::::::::::::: You can install this server patch from a local CD-ROM disc or from a remote server. Topics in this section explain both alternatives. Install the Patch from a CD --------------------------- 1. Burn the ISO to a factory-new CD-ROM disc, using 1X as the burn speed. NOTE: DO NOT USE ANY FASTER SPEED THAN 1X TO BURN THE DISC. 2. When the disc is finished burning, make sure that the MD5sum has not changed and is still valid. 3. Insert the CD into your server. 4. Log in to AAI. 5. Choose APPLIANCE_CONTROL > SOFTWARE_UPDATE > CD_UPDATE. Your server mounts the ISO. A message identifies the patch, your server model, and your server BIOS release. CAUTION: IF ANY MESSAGE SAYS THE PATCH IS WRONG FOR YOUR SERVER, DO NOT INSTALL IT. Instead, choose the option to stop this installation immediately. 6. Choose Yes when the installer asks if it should apply the patch. Soon, a message states that the patch was applied successfully. Instructions tell you to shut down your server. 7. Choose OK. A message confirms that your server is shutting down. NOTE: IF INSTALLATION FAILS, START OVER AGAIN. Download and validate a completely new copy of the ISO file and repeat all steps in this procedure. 8. Tightly grip the power cord by its plug and then pull the plug completely from its wall socket. 9. Leave the server unplugged for at least 1 full minute, to ensure that it is drained of all residual electricity. 10. Plug your server back in. 11. Restart your server and check that it is operating correctly. 12. Stop. You have completed this procedure. Install the Patch from a Remote Server -------------------------------------- 1. Copy the patch ISO to an FTP, SFTP, or HTTP server. 2. When the ISO is finished copying, make sure that its MD5sum has not changed and is valid 3. Log in to AAI. 4. Choose APPLIANCE_CONTROL > SOFTWARE_UPDATE > REMOTE_UPDATE. 5. Choose the option that matches your remote server type. Your options are: - FTP - SFTP - HTTP 6. Enter the URL carefully. Your server mounts the ISO. A message identifies the patch, your server model, and your server BIOS release. CAUTION: IF ANY MESSAGE SAYS THE PATCH IS WRONG FOR YOUR SERVER, DO NOT INSTALL IT.
