Pipes

The "|" character on your keyboard is called a pipe. It is typically used as a divider to separate related sets of information. On Cisco.com, the use of pipes is restricted.

Pipes may only be used in the following instances:

  • in the context of an application, for example "Previous/Next"
  • to act on content
  • to toggle
  • in a download selection
  • to delineate file types
  • in header and footer

Pipes may not be used in the following instances:

  • in the context of copy
  • to separate content/navigation links
  • as an anchor link
  • in a table of contents
  • as a typographic element
