Cisco.com User Experience Guidelines and Standards

Build Your Site

Content CSS Browser Requirements

The Content CSS is optimized for the following browsers:

  • IE 6.0 and 7.0 on Windows
  • Firefox 1.5 and up on Windows, Mac, and Linux

Contact cdc-int-dev@cisco.com if you have further questions on Browser requirements.

This section provides the tools needed to build the pages for your site. It includes what you'll need for creating pages that are hosted on Cisco.com or outside the Cisco.com development environment, yet still must conform to the brand and user experience guidelines.

Framework (Vendor Kit)

The vendor kit is an HTML template used to "paint" the framework for an externally hosted site to give it the same look and feel as Cisco.com. The kit was designed to accommodate sites that cannot be hosted on Cisco.com. If a site or applications meets one of the following criteria, it is eligible for the vendor kit:

  • Requires special publishing functionality
  • Hosted on third party servers and without near-term plans to migrate to CDC
  • Requires special entitlement beyond what CDC can offer
  • Requires additional design functionality beyond what CDC can offer

NOTE: A custom framework for global use is currently under development. Contact cdc-vendor-kit-support@cisco.com for more information.

For more information on whether or not a site is eligible to use the vendor kit, please contact cdc-vendor-kit-support@cisco.com.

Send a request to cdc-vendor-kit-support@cisco.com to receive the vendor kit. If you already have a vendor kit site on production, make sure you are subscribed to the cdc-vendor-kit alias through Cisco Mailer.

Content CSS Developer Kit

Use the tools in the Content CSS Developer kit to create content for Cisco.com. The kit centralizes the look and feel to ensure correct implementation of the UE specifications. Because updates to the UE are done in the background, the code is automatically updated. The developer kit contains:

  • Developer Guide: explaining the use of the CSS.
  • Module Libraries: Code snippets and examples for properly coded UE Modules. Code snippets are also available in the Page Layout section.
  • Local Development Setup Files: Setup files to allow you to develop pages on your local computer.
  • Templates: Content area templates for various content layouts.
  • Training Docs & Examples: Files used during the implementation training, plus exercise files and a module library.

Before you begin, please join the cdc-content-css@cisco.com mailer alias. Please use this alias if any questions about the CSS or content within this Developer Kit.

Pop-up Template

A pop-up window is a new window generated by the browser as a result of a user action. It is intended to be used for supporting information where the user closes the window when finished with it; however by default, the pop-up window has full browser controls and is resizable, so the user may continue to navigate in that window as desired. The pop-up template includes a header (logo, title, horizontal rule) and footer only; it does not contain the additional Cisco.com framework navigation.

For user experience and implementation guidelines or to download the template, please see the Pop-Up Template section.
