NEW READER TIPS
Get Helpful Tips from Other Readers in the Field

Picking up where Packet Magazine left off, the Cisco Technical Services Newsletter is now carrying New Reader Tips. These Reader Tips are submitted by IT professionals just like you, and can be a useful source of information.

Beginning with this issue, we will post one new Reader Tip a month, like the one below:

Record Device Serial Numbers

Our secret is to always put the serial number of each device in the Banner MOTD, and the circuit IDs in the serial interface descriptions. That way, when working remotely from home, telneted into the device, we don't have to go to some other source for that information should we need to contact a provider or the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC).

-Chris Cerny, Community Hospitals, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

If your Tip is selected for publication, you will receive a complimentary Cisco polo t-shirt from the Cisco Technical Services Newsletter staff.
