Cisco Output Interpreter - SPOTLIGHT:
Online Tool Analyzes Device Output

Cisco Output Interpreter is an online troubleshooting tool that analyzes supported "show" command output and reports potential problems.

You can use Output Interpreter to:

  • Interpret "show" command outputs from your router, switch, or PIX firewall.

  • Receive explanations for console error messages in Cisco IOS Software.

  • Decode and analyze the output from your router or switch's "stack trace" command for possible bugs.

  • Decode and analyze hexadecimal configuration register values of devices running Cisco IOS Software.

  • Convert the "apply," "conduit," and "outbound" statements of your PIX firewall to equivalent "access-list" statements.

Recent Enhancements Heighten Functionality

Cisco recently implemented changes to the layout and navigation of the Service Order (SVO) tools you use to create and monitor RMAs (Return Material Authorizations).

The SVO Submit tool now features the following:
  • Service Request Number and Service Level are displayed on the Confirmation page.

  • Expanded contract search and more accurate matching. The site and service line you select determine the corresponding contract number.

The SVO Status tool now features the following:

  • Reports are now part of this tool.

  • Status e-mails contain more detailed information about the order.

  • Links to more detailed information about Notes, Line Details, Service Request, and Contract Number.

Another recent SVO tools change is that product RMAs will now be shown in the Status tool, not the SVO Status tool. Beginning this month, when you enter a product RMA number in the SVO Status tool, you will see a link to the Status tool. However, you can still use the SVO Status tool to obtain order status, return status, service RMAs, or reports by entering a service RMA number.

Visit the RMA/SVO tools today at:
(available to registered users only)

Note: For the most efficient Service Order reference and for timely part deliveries, it is important to update contract data with current site locations and part assignments on a regular basis. Contract updates may be requested by sending an e-mail to If you are the contract administrator for your company, submit your requests through the Service Contract Center (SCC) Tool located at:

In addition, if you need to add contracts to your CPR/CCO user ID, please send an e-mail to

CCIE Central - UPDATE:
Updates to Routing and Switching Exams

Voice-over-IP (VoIP) has matured to the point that organizations rely heavily on voice technology experts with specialized skills and experience to implement and maintain VoIP solutions. In September 2003, Cisco began certifying CCIEs in Voice.

With the availability of the specialized Voice certification, the CCIE Routing and Switching lab exam will, beginning January 1, 2005, eliminate voice-specific concepts and refocus on core networking issues. Furthermore, based on a recent beta test of the revised written exam, a new version of the CCIE Routing and Switching written exam is currently being prepared for general release in the upcoming weeks. Like the updated lab exam, the newest version of the CCIE Routing and Switching written exam will no longer contain questions about VoIP concepts. In addition, the written exam will include a separate section on wireless mobility.
