Cisco TAC Case Collection Tool - UPDATE:
New Network Management Knowledge Base Now Available
The online Cisco TAC Case Collection tool can help you quickly find solutions to common issues related to Cisco products and technologies, based on symptoms you describe. The tool's knowledge bases provide support for dial (access), frame relay, IP routing protocols, LAN switching, network management, network security, router and Cisco IOS architecture, voice, and wireless technologies.
Cisco engineers continue to update these knowledge bases and introduce new ones using information from recent Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) service requests. The newest knowledge base covers network management products and issues such as:
- Installation and upgrade
- Maintenance and backup
- Login
- Community strings
- Counters
- Traps
- How to use MIB objects
Below are two examples of network management solutions from the new knowledge base.
Visit the Cisco TAC Case Collection today to view more network management solutions:

While visiting the Cisco TAC Case Collection, take a moment to provide your feedback through an optional online survey, available through the end of September, and become eligible to win a Linksys WPC11 Wireless-B Notebook Adapter.
Due to the dynamic nature of the content in the Cisco TAC Case Collection, you should access the tool with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, Netscape 6.0, or later.
Note: Beginning with this issue of the Cisco Technical Support Newsletter, we include links to selected TAC Case Collection solutions in our "New Technical Tips" section.

Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.2(18)SXD - NEW
Cisco Extends Cisco IOS High Availability
The Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2S family is designed for enterprise campus and service provider edge networks that require world-class IP and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) services. The Cisco Catalyst® switches and high-end routers supported in Release 12.2S provide secure, converged network services in the most demanding enterprise and service provider environments, from the wiring closet and data center to the WAN edge.
Release 12.2(18)SXD, the most recent release in the 12.2S family, extends the benefits of Cisco IOS High Availability to enterprise campus, data center, and WAN aggregation networks, and service provider edge aggregation networks that run the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switch and Cisco 7600 Series Router. The increased availability and resiliency reduces the total cost of network ownership while improving overall productivity and efficiency.
Key features in Release 12.2(18)SXD include:
- Cisco Nonstop Forwarding with Stateful Switchover -- Delivers seamless Supervisor Engine switchover and nonstop application availability for business-critical services on the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switch and Cisco 7600 Series Router.
- Gateway Load Balancing Protocol -- Uses network bandwidth more effectively by load-sharing packets over all available paths while protecting the first-hop router.
- MPLS Traffic Engineering Fast Reroute -- Provides carrier-class traffic protection and restoration, similar to SONET/SDH. Service providers can now reroute MPLS label-switched paths around any link or node failure with full traffic recovery rates as fast as 50 milliseconds.
- Control Plane Policing -- Allows businesses to avoid network interruption by protecting the control and management planes of a networking device against malicious Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.
- Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Wireless LAN Services Module -- Enables secure, highly available, and easily managed unified networking deployments for enterprises, midsize businesses, universities, and service providers. Part of the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series of multilayer switches and a key component of the Cisco Structured Wireless-Aware Network framework, this module is the industry's only enterprise-class wireless and wireline switching system.
