Hello,

This month marks the start of a new publication schedule for the Cisco TAC Newsletter. We now plan to publish two issues of the newsletter each month, instead of one newsletter and occasional news flashes. This way, we can bring you fresher news, with fewer individual e-mails arriving in your in box. You should receive your next issue of the TAC Newsletter in two weeks.

Cisco IOS Release 12.3 Documentation

If you are particularly interested in Cisco IOS Release 12.3, a wealth of documentation on implementation, configuration, commands, error messages, new features, and much more is available online, in both PDF and HTML formats. The Cisco IOS Release 12.3 documentation differs from that of other recent major releases in several ways:

  • For Cisco IOS IPv6 and Voice documentation, we have integrated configuration information. The IPv6 configuration library includes implementation guides and a Start Here document. The Voice configuration library offers configuration guides, application guides, and new-feature documentation.


  • Other new configuration content -- from technology-specific, online configuration guides to new-feature documents -- is available via links instead of in standalone configuration guides.

Cisco RMA Service Order (SVO) Tools - UPDATE:
New RMA Numbering Scheme, Effective August 15

The RMA Service Order Tools on Cisco.com allow you to submit service orders (using the SVO Submit Tool) and check the status of your requests (using the SVO Status Tool). As part of recent improvements to these tools, we have changed the numbering system that tracks your RMA (return materials authorization) service orders.

Here are the details of the recent enhancements:

  • New RMA numbering style -- As of August 15, all RMAs are now assigned an eight-digit numeric sequence (for example, 80000001) instead of an alphanumeric sequence (for example, D511258A). This change will enable us to upgrade our tools while still being able to cross-reference RMA numbers with TAC case numbers. All RMAs created before August 15 will keep their eight-digit alphanumeric sequence.


  • Expanded contract search capabilities -- If you have a shared support contract, you can now search by company name and then by contract types to identify contract-entitled sites.


  • Link to the TAC Case Collection tool -- The RMA SVO tools main page now provides a link to the TAC Case Collection (located on the right-hand side of the page, under the heading "Related Tools"). This online archive of actual case solutions helps you identify and troubleshoot common problems involving hardware, configuration, and performance issues.


  • Link to the Product Trade-In Returns Tool -- The RMA SVO tools main page now provides a link to the Product Trade-In Returns Tool (located on the right-hand side of the page, under the heading "Related Tools") for business unit trade-in programs, competitive trade-in deals, and environmental take-back requests. This tool provides an easy way for you to return used equipment to Cisco in an environmentally sound way.

Cisco Product Alert Tool - UPDATE:
 Receive Timely Automated Messages About Cisco Products

You can set up the online Cisco Product Alert tool to send you automated e-mail messages about new Field Notices, Product Alerts, and End of Sale information for the Cisco products you specify. The tool sends these alerts as soon as they are available, so you'll always have the latest product information.

To start receiving automated messages, set up a profile in the Cisco Product Alert tool in three simple steps:

  1. Give your profile a name.
  2. Select the product or products in which you're interested.
  3. Confirm your e-mail address.

You can add products to or remove products from your profile at any time. You can even have multiple profiles, one for each area of product interest.

Forget Your User ID or Password?
Your user ID is usually your first initial followed by your last name; for example, John Doe's user ID might be "jdoe."
