LAN Switching Technical Support Documents - UPDATE:
Updated Documents Focus on Cisco Catalyst® Switch Issues
Recent updates to five LAN switching documents on the Cisco TAC Web Site
cover software upgrades, Spanning-Tree Protocol, Multilayer Switch Feature
Card (MSFC) issues, EtherChannel® technology, virtual LANs (VLANs), and
trunking.
Check out these updated documents:
- "How to Upgrade Software Images on Catalyst Switch
Layer 3 Modules" -- Procedures for upgrading a software image on a Catalyst
4000 or Catalyst 4232 Layer 3 Module, Catalyst 5000 Route Switch Module,
Catalyst 6000 Multilayer Switch Module, Catalyst 6000 Multilayer Switch Feature
Card 1 (MSFC1), and Catalyst 6000 Multilayer Switch Feature Card 2 (MSFC2):
www.cisco.com/tac/newsletter/0103_upgrade_software_images.html
- "Understanding
and Configuring Spanning-Tree Protocol on Catalyst Switches" -- Spanning-Tree Protocol
configuration on Catalyst 2926G, 2948G, 2980G, 4000, 5000,
and 6000 switches running the Catalyst OS. These spanning-tree principles
apply to almost all devices that support Spanning-Tree Protocol:
www.cisco.com/tac/newsletter/0103_spanning_tree_protocol.html
- "How
to Recover a Missing MSFC from the Supervisor's 'show module' Command" --
Procedures for recovering an MSFC/MSFC2 using the "show module" command output
from the Catalyst 6000 supervisor engine:
www.cisco.com/tac/newsletter/0103_recover_missing_msfc.html
- "Understanding
EtherChannel Load Balancing and Redundancy on Catalyst Switches" -- An in-depth
exploration of the concepts of load balancing and redundancy on Catalyst
switches using EtherChannel technology:
www.cisco.com/tac/newsletter/0103_etherchan_load_bal.html
- "Configuring
InterVLAN Routing and ISL/802.1Q Trunking on a Catalyst 2900XL/3500XL/2950
Switch Using An External Router" -- Scenarios that work with Cisco 2600,
3600, and 4500/4700 Series routers with FastEthernet interfaces, and any
Catalyst 2900XL, 3500XL, or 2950 switch:

Networking Professionals Connection - UPDATE:
New Online Discussion Forum Focuses on Service Provider Technologies
You can read about regular schedule updates to the Networking Professionals Connection in
the "Online Technical Training Opportunities" section of this newsletter,
but here's a special highlight of the site's new discussion forum for service
provider technologies.
The Networking Professionals Connection Web site lets you discuss Cisco
networking products and technologies with your peers worldwide. At the new
Service Providers discussion forum, you can talk online about Metro, Multiprotocol
Label Switching (MPLS) over ATM, virtual private network (VPN) service architectures,
voice over IP (VoIP), and optical networking.
Visit the Service Providers discussion forum to learn more about Cisco service provider products and services today:

Cisco TAC Case Query Tool - UPDATE:
Case Query Tool Will Replace Case Update Tool
The online Cisco TAC Case Query tool allows you to update your Cisco TAC
cases yourself, adding notes or uploading files, instead of dictating changes
to a Cisco representative over the phone. Because this tool now provides
the same functions as the Cisco TAC Case Update tool, we plan to remove the
Cisco TAC Case Update tool on Friday, March 14, 2003.
The Cisco TAC Case Query tool:
- Enables you to update a case in less than half the time it takes to call us and have a representative update the case for you.
- Lets you enter detailed technical notes, and attach configuration or output files to the case.
- Sends
an alert to your TAC engineer and captures your changes in the case history
each time you update a case. This detailed case history is particularly helpful
if your case is re-queued to another engineer.
Bookmark the Cisco TAC Case Query tool today to track and update your TAC cases as quickly as possible:
