INSIDE CISCO
An interview with... Keith Redfield, Advanced Customer Systems
(ACS) Developer, Cisco Systems, Inc.
Q: What was the impetus behind creating the new Cisco TAC Guide?
)
A: The Cisco
TAC Guide provides the ability to integrate legacy Cisco Web tools and
knowledge bases into a more seamless support experience for customers.
Furthermore, the Cisco TAC Guide can fundamentally search more accurately
by looking at three common support issues: configuration, protocols, and
products.
Q: What is the underlying technology behind the Cisco TAC Guide?
A: We are using a case-based reasoning engine called WebAdvisor
from Servicesoft Technologies. This is the same underlying technology
behind the Cisco Troubleshooting Assistant on CCO. The custom template
work and Javascript in the tool helps create a more intuitive user interface.
We are beefing up the server architecture to address the performance issues.
In addition, several major improvements have been deployed to the knowledge
base, based on customer feedback.

CORRECTIONS
Last month it was reported that Cisco IOS Release 11.2(18)GS4 replaced
the deferred 11.1(29)CC release when 11.2(18)GS4 simply supports the Cisco
120XX platform and does not replace 11.1(29)C. We are sorry for the confusion
and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
