Packet Comic: Hacker Busters

Hacker Busters are all about busting hackers. Sounds like a great comic book, don't you think? Take a look at the digital images of the characters in the Peter Packet games. You'll find them on this site ready for you to use as they are or to transform as you wish.

Think about using these characters to create a comic book about problems hackers create. What would your story be? What characters would you use in your story? What would be the problem faced in the story? Every good story has to have some sort of problem in it. Maybe you read the Captain Underpants books by Dave Pilkey when you were younger – the comic books that were created in those books are a good example of what you might think about creating here.

Write a script for your comic book. What will happen in the scenes on the first page, on the second and so on. Maybe you'll find it easier to put one scene on a page. You might want to create a storyboard of your story. That's simply a list of what's going to happen in your story. You'll be mapping out what happens. Fancy storyboards might be on poster board and include just about everything in your story including pictures of your characters. You don't have to do a fancy storyboard for this, but you should have your plot (what happens) in mind.

The easiest way to complete the comic book would be to use the characters as they are and to place text under them in each scene or page. If you have the time, you'd probably have fun inserting the characters in a paint or photo-editing program like Broderbund's Kid Pix® or Adobe Photoshop Elements®. Once you have your characters in one of these programs, you can change how they look, what they are doing, and what they are wearing. You can create backgrounds around them that you want for your comic.*

After you have your scenes complete, put your comic together using a word processor such as AppleWorks® or Microsoft Word®, or simply add the text to your scenes when you are in Kid Pix or PhotoShop Elements.

Check your work when you are finished and share your comic with others. Your teacher may want to have you present your comic to your class or to other classes in the school.

*If you don't know how to insert pictures into your comic or to import the characters into a paint or photo-editing program, ask your teacher or parents for some help. It's all pretty easy once you know the basics. Kid Pix is not just for younger kids. It is an amazing program that lots of adults who are artists love to use, too.
