Cisco Networking Academies are providing technology education in 63 developing countries and emerging economies. An important indicator in the developing country designation is a Gross National Income that can range from $755 to $9,265 per capita. Amidst economic, political and cultural challenges, Cisco has partnered with these countries to implement over 1,500 Academies.

For many years the Development Assistance Committee of OECD published a list of Aid Recipients. This list was known as the "List of Developing Countries and Territories".
