Cisco Green IT Sessions
Cisco's approach of "Changing the Way We Work, Live, Play, and Learn" extends to its ability to reduce the effects of the company's operations and products on the environment. Cisco's vision is to combine the power of innovation with collaboration to create the most sustainable model for addressing global climate change. Innovation is at the heart of what Cisco does, and collaboration – internally and externally – is what fuels its ability to drive new ideas across Cisco and with its customers. Cisco believes that the network can become a "green platform" for technology to help transform how we manage global environmental challenges.
The following sessions are available now for you to book through the Content Catalogue:

Birds of a Feather: BOF-12 Good for Business, Better for Environment. What is Environmental-aware IT?
Rising energy costs, environmental concerns, government and industry directives, and heightened public scrutiny are all combining to bring Green issues and practices to the forefront of business and IT plans. Eyes are set on the IT industry as technology is commonly seen as source of pollution. Come and find out how you can bring together energy efficiencies and innovative business practices in order to meet your green goals while achieving substantial operational cost efficiencies to address today's market.
One of the most popular and valuable ways to meet other networking professionals is at a Birds of a Feather session. Moderated by Cisco Engineers, BoFs are a great way to discuss technology topics, share information and ideas, and get answers to specific questions in a relaxed setting. Join us for an informal discussion with your peers and Cisco Engineers where you are given the opportunity to ask the questions.
Tuesday January 27
Technology Panel : PAN-03 - Evaluating and Enhancing Green Practices : Rising energy costs, environmental concerns, government and industry directives, and heightened public scrutiny are all combining to bring Green issues and practices to the forefront of business and IT plans. These rising Green pressures are also driving more and more discussions focused on how the network a resource that touches everything -- can bolster Green efforts. And at the center of these discussions are the routing and switching systems that form the central core of the network infrastructure. These central network systems can have a profound impact on an organization's Green practices and standing. Gains in business and IT efficiency serve to control energy costs and consumption, while also reducing eWaste. Gains in business and IT effectiveness serve to improve worker productivity, remote collaboration, and business profitability. Come and hear what Cisco's vision and commitment is on environmental sustainability. This 90 minute panel discussion session will bring in high level Cisco Executives, customers, and partners and discuss these rising Green pressures, and how the network can bolster Green efforts.
Technology Panels are interactive sessions allowing the audience to discuss the hottest technology topics, don't miss out.

Case Study CCS-1007 - Reducing Power Consumption in Cisco Test and Development Labs.
Testing is a critical element in the development of networking products and solutions which can consume considerable amounts of power if not carefully managed. Like many other organisations Cisco has multiple strategies for minimising it's carbon footprint and one of the major areas of work is the reduction of power consumption and a key area of focus are the many test and development environments which are distributed across the globe. This case study will provide an overview of the power reduction systems that have been put in place across several types of test environment within Cisco and focus on one solution that was specifically designed for facilities which conduct ad hoc deployment and solution tests. At the end of the session every attendee should be able to take away ideas which can be quickly implemented to reduce the power consumed in any size of network lab.
Case Study CCS-1002 - Leaf House and Leaf Community: Technology in service of Green initiatives
This session is about Leaf Community, the first eco-sustainable completely integrated community in Italy. In Leaf Community it is possible to live in a zero carbon house, and move with electrical or hydrogen cars, bring children to a solar school and work in eco-compatible buildings. Energy is provided by renewable energy sources, granting the highest level of comfort and modernity. The Leaf community is a place where to meet up and exchange ideas, an open laboratory, a model to integrate in a design territory. This case study will demonstrate how Cisco technology is used to promote this Green initiative
Case Studies: Learn how other customers and Cisco are deploying Cisco technologies and solutions (both for customers and internally) . The objective is to share lessons learned, best practices, and possibly even pain points and suggested enhancements for the future. These sessions will provide an overview about a project, the projects objectives, the proposed design and some implementation details. Case Studies are presented either by the customer, partner or Cisco. As every project is unique, so are the Case Studies - don't miss the opportunity to learn from your peers in the industry.
BRKCAM-2015 The Network as the Platform for Campus Energy Management and Cost Savings.
For the past one hundred years businesses grew their electricity consumption with little consideration for generation constraints, cost and environmental impact. The model of constant growth worked in a world of boundless cheap energy coupled to free green house gas emissions.
The world's ecological limits are starting to show signs of stress. With energy and environmental constraints in mind, Cisco has developed solutions that makes the network a control plane for energy management.
Cisco's solutions enables the network to not only monitor and control directly connected PoE devices but also other network attached AC main's powered plug loads. Cisco makes the network a control plane for energy management and it gives IT organizations a tool for managing energy more effectively.
This session will give insights into how Cisco's holistic solutions contribute to increasing energy efficiency, sustainable Green IT and Business Operations and Business behavior changes. The session will explain the current possibilities to manage and control power consumption on shipping Cisco products and attached devices and will discuss the cost saving associated with power control.
Finally, the session will provide information about current upcoming industry standards and initiatives to enhance energy efficiency in network equipment as well as Cisco's newest framework to manage and optimize power consumption.
Technical Breakout Sessions are the foundation of Cisco's annual training program and are updated each year based on feedback and advances in the IT and communications industry. Technology Breakout Sessions are led by Cisco experts, partners and customers and are 100% focused on today's most important and innovative technologies for service provider, enterprise, government, and small and midsized business networks.
