Professional Security Development

CIAG

CIAG established the Network Security Professor Professional Development Program which provides hands-on training for college, university, and community college professors and instructors involved in information assurance education. This free training program is designed to enhance professors' network security knowledge and professional development. The training has also been extended to critical infrastructure sector providers and government agencies when appropriate and as scheduling permits.

Professor Professional Development

The program consists of four days of lab-intensive, hands-on security exercises for topics such as router security, firewalls, virtual private networks, and intrusion detection and protection. The training schedule is as follows:

Day 1—General security topics (such as security policies) and router security.

Day 2—Configuring firewalls for secure outbound and inbound access, configuring advanced protocols and intrusion detection, and using the firewall as a VPN gateway.

Day 3—Configuring remote access VPNs, firewall VPNs, and router VPNs.

Day 4—Configuring intrusion detection sensors, configuring and customizing signatures, and monitoring and managing alarm data.

To help provide this valuable training, CIAG requests that education facilities host a class onsite. The site must provide:

  • Ten workstations (two persons per workstation for a maximum of 20 students) with an Internet Explorer browser and Internet connections available for accessing the lab equipment.
  • Registration and scheduling services

Contact CIAG if your school is interested in hosting a Network Security Professor Professional Development Program in your area. Please remember that CIAG requires at least 20 "students" to cost-justify a scheduled class. Advance notice to schedule lab time is also required.
