IPv6 Security

Principal Investigator: Convery, S., Miller, D.

Project Description: Comprehensive study comparing the security aspects of IPv4 and IPv6, including tools for testing IPv6 vulnerabilities

Project Impact: Helps the user community understand the strengths and weaknesses of the IPv6 protocols in a language they can understand.

Project Details: Most major vendors have limited implementations of IPv6, and recently the U.S. Department of Defense has mandated that they be fully migrated to IPv6 by 2008. The objective of this research is to see what current research has been completed and where the current body of knowledge and best practices rests with IPv6. The postulate going into the work is that most of the focus on IPv6 security is centered on the availability of IPSec, not on any of the other issues the new protocol presents.
