Corporate Development continues to extend and accelerate investments in markets where Cisco is already present, while simultaneously giving consideration to emerging markets where there is strong potential. Cisco takes advantage of critical market transitions and disruptions through investments. We look for opportunities to accelerate, learn about, and apply new technologies that exist across many global markets. Cisco invests globally to learn about new technologies and to align with partners to develop and deliver great solutions. This investment strategy represents a critical component in our lifecycle approach to assessing and engaging with technology and geographic markets. The Cisco Global Team within Corporate Development consists of people in the following regions: Israel, India, Asia-Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and Western Europe.
As an example, in Israel, Cisco was an early investor in venture funds almost a decade ago. Israel has been one of the most active markets for Cisco on both the investment and acquisition fronts. Our recent investments in venture funds in Russia/Commonwealth of Independent States and Central and Eastern Europe represent the beginning stages of entry into those markets. These activities are aimed at achieving broader Cisco objectives in key technology markets as well as regional market-facing objectives.
