The Vision

Cisco’s Global Education group has released a white paper entitled Equipping Every Learner for the 21st Century, which proposes a new paradigm of 21st century learning. It requires a holistic transformation of education systems; guided by a comprehensive roadmap of curricular and assessment reform, as well as improved teacher and leadership development. This transformation will be supported by collaborative technologies that allow individuals to create, adapt, and share content.

The Challenge

Accessibility to a quality education is imperative to raise the human condition in any part of the globe. We know that a skilled and knowledgeable workforce is the primary driver of a competitive economy; and that education systems around the world are under acute pressure to produce higher qualified students in greater numbers. Our resolve is to provide students and system leaders with the tools they need to raise not only the academic potential of each learner but the human condition of all.

The future growth and sustainability of our global economy depends on the ability of our education systems to provide effective and engaging learning environments that support the development of 21st century skills such as creative thinking, problem solving, and collaboration.

Many school systems around the world are struggling to meet these demands. A solution to this issue will require multi-stakeholder collaboration and innovation to provide all students with the tools needed to achieve their full academic potential.

The Approach

Education 3.0 is a paradigm shift within education systems to enhance the current focus on curriculum, teachers, accountability, and leadership to include 21st century learning methods enabled by technology and supported through an adapted system reform agenda.

Each stakeholder plays a part in this new vision:

  • Learner: becomes an active participant in creating, collaborating, and participating in a relevant learning experience
  • Teacher: facilitates the delivery of new curricula in ways that support the development of 21st century skills
  • Administrator: develops innovative pedagogy that aligns resources, processes, and training
  • Education system leader: implements a demanding curriculum and accountability measures with comparable performance data/ targets
  • Government leader: provides the framework to support the development of these new curricula and assessments

Each stakeholder must take bold, innovative, and systematic actions to help shape a global response to the challenges that lie ahead.

The education conversation is changing; it’s time to get involved... your economy depends on it
