Cisco IP Technologies Save the Day in "One Day at Cisco" Video

At home, in the office, and on the road, a Cisco account manager demonstrates the power of Cisco mobility technology in one day that begins in Italy and ends in Turkey.

It is a bright, sun-drenched morning somewhere in Italy. The scene opens with an American family breakfasting al fresco on the balcony of a high-rise apartment in Italy. We soon learn that "Erica" is a Cisco® account manager from the United States, who is living abroad and teleworking from her home in Italy. Erica is about to celebrate the close of a big sale with an important customer from Turkey when she learns that the customer is considering a competitor's counteroffer and that her important deal may fall apart. Undaunted, Erica promises her team and the customer that she will have a revised proposal ready by the end of the day. Erica's challenge? To remain productive and reachable throughout the day as she races to meet her deadline.

With glossy production values and a story line that resembles the hit TV thriller "24," the compelling " One Day at Cisco" video shows Erica leaping into action and salvaging the crumbling deal using Cisco technologies such as IP Communications and secure VPN, wireless, and routing, while communicating effectively with a virtual team in several countries.

As the clock ticks, Erica wastes no time. She conducts a video conference with colleagues over the corporate VPN from her favorite neighborhood café using Cisco Unified Video Advantage and Cisco Unified Personal Communicator. A colleague in the United States makes travel arrangements on the Web, creates an itinerary using Outlook, and sets up an audio conference using Cisco Unified MeetingPlace software. From Erica's home office, which includes a Linksys wireless network, a Cisco IP phone, and a Cisco 831 Router, she revises her proposal, being careful to back up her data on her laptop. Then she heads to the airport, only to have her laptop and badge stolen. Fortunately, she is able to contact a team member, who arranges to have a new laptop and badge waiting for her when she arrives at the Cisco office in Istanbul. The video closes with Erica shaking hands with her happy customer, having proven that she could deliver on her promise.

"One Day at Cisco" is the product of IT program managers Donald De Witte and Paul Wood, who created the video for sales to use to introduce Cisco to customers. As a program manager in Europe responsible for the IT relationship with the sales force in the Mediterranean region, De Witte saw that sales, marketing, and other sales support teams needed a way to tangibly show how Cisco uses its own technology to make its workforce more productive. Says De Witte: "We wanted to film a powerful story showing how Cisco uses tools such as VPN, Unified Communications, routing, and PDAs [personal digital assistants] to connect employees anytime, anywhere. Demonstrating the network security capabilities with Credant PDA encryption, Cisco Security Agent, and an online backup tool such as TLM was as important to us as demonstrating the obvious productivity gains."

De Witte says, "We also included Linksys products to show how all the products work smoothly together in one home network for the entire teleworking family. This reinforces Cisco's message about 'living the human network,' and ties in with the company's Human Network marketing campaign."

Lance Perry, vice president of IT, says, "Delivering video capabilities that drive productivity is another way that the Cisco on Cisco program provides value to our user base, as well as to our customers."

The "One Day at Cisco" video is available in different formats for use during events such as Cisco Expo, or as an introduction to a keynote session.
