Messaging services are an integral part of the Cisco Unified Communications environment. Cisco employees use every tool at their disposal for continual communications, including Unity voice messaging and Exchange calendaring and email, integrated together into a powerful communications system using MeetingPlace. Unity is an IP-based messaging solution, combining traditional voicemail functionality with a Web browser, allowing users to access and manage voice messages from a phone or from a PC. The Exchange Messaging service provides users with flexible e-mail application / connection-method options and a global calendaring solution. Cisco MeetingPlace integrates with both calendaring and email solutions, bringing voice and video conferencing as well as application sharing into each meeting. Taking the total architecture approach, with Exchange as an integral part of the solution, allows Cisco to take advantage of the interoperability among many of Cisco's enterprise collaboration and mobility solutions.
