Prior to IOS-based, Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST)  call managers were needed at every site to support IP telephony high availability. With Cisco SRST, Cisco was able to consolidate all these call managers into a few IT-supported data centers and now over 230 Cisco sites worldwide get their call processing from just 13 production CallManager clusters.
