For 10 years, Australia and New Zealand have been experimenting with leading-edge technology on a national and regional basis. Some of the fastest innovation in the world has occurred in this region, which has a population of only 17 million people spread across massive geographies. The economics of this would not be viable without considerable cooperation and a common vision, and the Cisco® Internet Business Solutions Group is working with government agencies to foster this vision.
The highlight of IBSG’s work in Australia and New Zealand is in the banking and government sectors. Several large banks in Australia launched dozens of Internet initiatives two years ago, and IBSG has helped them analyze and understand their return on investment from these Internet initiatives. Within the government sector, IBSG has helped build Internet policy and watched new initiatives arise across the country, where brand new broadband infrastructure has been built between government ministries, research centers, and hospitals.
