Research@Cisco encourages collaborations that address a Cisco research area. All proposed collaborations should have an internal Cisco sponsor. Researchers may identify sponsors through Cisco Research RFPs, conferences, workshops, personal networking, and contacting research@cisco.com for suggestions.

Proposals & Rolling Deadlines:

Researchers should plan to submit their proposals as soon as possible. Submissions-to-date are reviewed at the beginning of each quarter (the first business day of: January, April, July, October). Proposals must be submitted using the application at http://cisco.cybergrants.com/research; the information requested includes -

  • The name of the Principal Investigator (project contact) and associates (including staff and graduate students),
  • A summary, as well as a full description, of the research challenge and the project goals.
  • A proposed research budget to be funded by Cisco,
  • Hardware/software/systems requirements, and
  • Administrative information.

Cisco research awards are normally in the form of unrestricted gifts. It is Cisco policy not to pay indirect costs (overhead) on unrestricted gifts. Intellectual property developed under a Cisco unrestricted gift remains with the institution to which the award was given. The link, Intellectual Property Considerations provides a more detailed discussion of award types and intellectual property considerations.

Our intent is to foster collaboration between researchers and Cisco technical staff, which requires:

  • An internal Cisco engineering sponsor
  • That no confidential or proprietary information is exchanged between researchers and Cisco Systems, Inc. without prior agreement
  • That by submitting a research proposal, you agree that your submission neither creates nor implies any obligations on the part of Cisco or its affiliates or partners, and that Cisco's decisions regarding your proposal are the sole discretion of Cisco reviewers and are not subject to appeal or review.
