Project ID:
RFP-2007-028
Title:
Innovating the World Wide Web (open call)
Summary:
This RFP is part of the Present and Future Web research area and covers high-level aspects, long term research, and additional Web related topics that are not specifically related to other RFPs.
Full Description:
Web 2.0 has introduced a great deal of innovation since Web 1.0, particularly in regards to user experience and social aspects such as collaboration and sharing. However, the underlying network infrastructure remained the same. Can the network be augmented with innovative features to further improve user experience and social use of the Web?
Web 3.0, or the semantic web, is already on the horizon. Very little is known about it but most agree that it will bring the focus of innovation back to the web infrastructure. This is the right time to start looking into how the web infrastructure and the network infrastructure could be co-designed and integrated in a seamless and synergic fashion.
This RFP also covers research proposals not directly related to any specific topic of the other RFPs in this area.
Constraints and other information:
IPR will stay with the University. Cisco expects customary scholarly dissemination of results, and hopes that promising results would be made available to the community without limiting licenses, royalties, or other encumbrances.
On-going research - open call (RFP-999-like specifically on the Web)
