Goals and Objectives

The purpose of this research area is to stimulate new efforts, experiments, and research in network services, applications and solutions. All of these experiments lead to new ways to expand and improve Cisco services network infrastructure.

Overview

As the Network evolves, applications we never imagined become ubiquitous and even household names. Cisco is constantly searching for these new applications so that we can add new functionality to the network. Taking this one step further , Cisco would like to sponsor research in the areas of future network based applications and services as well as the infrastructure and mechanisms needed to support them.

The goal of this initiative is to understand how the network can provide a better framework in terms of functionality and integration in today's distributed applications environment as well as to direct new research and discussions into this new model.

New Applications and services


Study and develop new network applications, services and solutions on top of an eventual Cisco service enabled network infrastructure.

The Infrastructure


Define the infrastructure requirements, research and develop algorithms, and tools that need to be implemented to meet the requirements.

Programming Interface


How to access the service infrastructure: APIs and protocols to enable third party developers.

If your research topic doesn't directly address any of the RFPs listed above, please submit it as a generic proposal for this area.
