Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS)

Cisco hosts research scholars widely recognized and noted for their contribution to, and impact on, education and research.Cisco Research and Cisco Engineering Learning host the Distinguished Lecture Series program.

Upcoming Lectures:

  • Michael Smith, Harvard University - “Practically Secure” - Jan, 2008.

Research Symposia

Research Symposia are a forum for Cisco engineering and academic researchers to address and discuss short and long term research problems and provide meaningful exchanges on issues of mutual concern and interests. A symposium typically includes a select group of Cisco engineers and academic researchers with recognized subject matter expertise.

*Attendance for symposia/workshops are by invitation only

Upcoming Symposia:

  • Economics of IP Addressing Workshop
Recently considerable interest in IP addresses allocation models (both IPv4 and IPv6) has arisen due to the growth of the Internet and limited supply of IPv4 address space. IP addresses are allocated by the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) based on policy developed by the RIR's constituency. The RIRs get their address space from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). Current projections indicate that the IANA will run out of new blocks of IPv4 addresses to allocate to the RIRs by 2010. The workshop aims at exploring possible strategies for IP address allocation from the public policy, economic and technical perspectives.

Research Lectures

Past research award recipients and other notable researchers are invited to present their information about their research discoveries or initiatives to select Cisco audiences.

Upcoming Lectures:

  • Mario Mense, Heinz Nixdorf Institut - “Router Buffing Sizing Revisited: The Role of the Output/Input Capacity Ratio.” - Jan, 2008
  • Mung Chiang, Princeton University - “Bigger Pipes, Higher Survivability, Smarter Connectivity” - Feb, 2008
