Vancouver 2010: Providing Opportunities for Aboriginal Suppliers

On March 12, 2009, representatives from the Vancouver 2010 Aboriginal Participation Team and the Four Host First Nations (FHFN) collaborated on an event at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, which featured the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC).

The vision of CAMSC is integral to the theme of this event, “2010 and Beyond: Linking Vancouver 2010 Sponsors and Partners with Aboriginal Suppliers”.

Creating New Opportunities
The purpose of the event was to maximize economic benefits for the aboriginal community through the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games by broadening the procurement menu for aboriginal suppliers. Vancouver 2010 Winter Games sponsors, government partners, licensees, and official suppliers were all encouraged to utilize the aboriginal business pool.

This event, a one-day workshop, included procurement delegates from major corporations, as well as aboriginal business enterprises.  CAMSC was highlighted as an organization committed to the promotion and success of aboriginal-owned enterprises.

During the sessions, suppliers had the opportunity to network with the representatives from several of the participating organizations in attendance.

About CAMSC
Established in 2004, CAMSC serves as a vehicle for globally-recognized corporations in Canada to reach out to aboriginal and minority-owned businesses, and identifies potentially innovative and competitive suppliers to enhance their supply chain.
