What is it like to work here?
This is a place where it can be as challenging as you would like to make it. Cisco is rich with different opportunities and experiences, and the key is to take them. Currently there are many different generations of employees (Baby Boomers, GenX, GenY), which makes for a very diverse environment.
What is a typical "day in the life" like? What do you spend your time doing?
My day depends on the phase of the audit I am on, but I do interact with my team on a daily basis. I spend a lot of my time trying to understand different processes at Cisco: it’s similar to a solving a huge puzzle and every piece is a different organization, tool or process that I am trying to fit together to see the big picture. To find the different pieces, I talk to stakeholders familiar with the process and research their organizations.
How do you work together with your team?
Due to the nature of my work, our audits are heavily team focused. Fortunately and unfortunately, ICS members are located nationwide and worldwide, from Atlanta to the UK, Singapore, and India. We usually communicate through basics like meetings on WebEx and emails to advanced technologies like Cisco TelePresence and collaboration tools like our ICS wiki page. Through these tools we are able to communicate constantly and effectively, though early morning meetings are never easy to get used to.
Why did you choose to work at Cisco?
Growing up in Silicon Valley, I have always heard great things about Cisco. From the numerous awards it has won, to the reputation of a tech bellwether, it was a pretty easy choice. The deciding factor was the people I met through the interview process. During fall recruiting, I met a lot of interviewers from different companies, but the Cisco employees I met seemed to stick out with their extensive experience, and wanting to help you grow.
What is your favorite thing about working here?
Besides the free office supplies, my favorite thing about working at Cisco are the people that I have met. I have met people with various backgrounds: from those with industry experience, to unique experiences such as working at an international consulate, to theater actors. Also, it’s the surprise factor: you never know who you are going to meet next.
