Cisco to Focus on Helping Thailand Harness the Network for National Infrastructure Transformation and Sustainable Economic Growth

Bangkok – September 10, 2010 — Cisco Systems today shared its blueprint for how Thailand can generate sustainable economic growth through the use of environmentally-friendly information and communications technology (ICT). The key to this is the creation of a national broadband plan that will enable the delivery of services such as e-Health, e-Education and e-Government.

Dr. Tatchapol Poshyanonoda, managing director of Cisco Thailand said: "There are significant technology trends taking place around the world transforming the way we work, live, play and learn. In order for individuals and organizations in Thailand to keep pace with these developments, the country needs a national broadband agenda that can serve as a platform for the economic transformation of the country. Imagine being able to deliver quality education or healthcare to every citizen in Thailand for just $1 a day. Technology, in particular the network, can be that platform to bridge the digital divide and a catalyst for sustained economic growth."

Besides championing a national broadband agenda, Cisco also plans to raise awareness for the role of technology in driving environmentally-sustainable growth. Cisco EnergyWise provides real-time, granular measurement capabilities to give chief information officers better visibility into energy savings across an entire organization as well as specific places in the network such as the campus, branch office and data center. Cisco plans to deploy EnergyWise technology to over 2,000 customers nationwide, enabling these organizations to substantially lower their energy consumption.

In addition, Cisco is encouraging all Thai people to join its 'One Million Acts of Green' (OMAOG) campaign, which allows people all over the world to make their lives, communities, and environment greener through online community on Everyone can record their green acts and share their ideas so as to inspire other people to help save the World continuously.

Another area that Cisco is going to focus on is cloud computing and managed services. With its breadth of networking and communications solutions and broad eco-system of partners, Cisco will be introducing innovative service models that allow customers to consume technology in new ways. Internally, Cisco Thailand will also be structured by verticals, enabling the company to more effectively meet the needs of specific industries such as education, healthcare and finance.

"We are confident that these approaches will enable Cisco to be a more valuable partner to the government and to our customers in Thailand. This is embodied in our new branding campaign 'Together We Are the Human Network' which is all about enabling Thai people to collaboratively do things and work together towards the same goal." Dr. Tatchapol added.
