Cisco Promotes Christian Hentschel to Head of Emerging Countries in Asia

Bangkok, February 2, 2009 - Cisco has promoted Christian Hentschel to managing director of Emerging Countries in Asia. Reporting directly to Chris Khang, president for Cisco in Asia, Christian is responsible for business operations for the company in Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. He was previously the Director for Commercial, Marketing and Channel Operations in Asia.

Christian relocated to Asia in 2003 and in his first three years was the director for Advanced Technologies for the Asia Pacific region where he managed teams of product and business development professionals who were responsible for Cisco’s fastest growing technologies - IP Telephony, Security, Storage Networking, Wireless LAN and Optical.

"Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam represent some of our fastest growing markets in the region and I am confident that Christian has the experience and leadership to take these countries to the next level. In his previous role, Christian helped to grow Cisco’s penetration into the small and medium business segments and led the execution of unique marketing initiatives such as the Cisco Express-Network on Wheels. He also demonstrated sales leadership in acting country manager roles in Singapore and the Philippines," said Khang.

Christian joined Cisco in December 1997 in Germany as regional sales manager, Commercial and Enterprise, for the Frankfurt area and was appointed as director of operations, Enterprise and Commercial Sales Germany, in 2000. He played an important role in the growth of Cisco’s Advanced Technologies in key vertical industries in Germany in 2001 and 2002. He also was the key driver to establish a vertical enterprise organization in Germany and was responsible for the national and international business for customer in the segments Transport, Logistic, Retail, Utilities, Automotive, Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals.

Prior to joining Cisco, Christian worked for seven years at German computer company KOBIL. He has has a Bachelor in International Business Studies and studied as well several languages like English, French and Spanish. He also had several spells in China and Hong Kong learning the Chinese language and culture.

Christian will continue to be based out of Singapore with his family in his new role.
