Newedge and the Cisco Difference

Preliminary Case Study Questions

Q: What was the solution implemented by Cisco? (detailed hardware & software - please provide solution fact sheet / whitepaper)

A:  The LAN infrastructure consists of FOUR - Cisco 3750G-48PS-S switches which are stacked access switches, TWO Cisco WS-C3750G-48TS-S switches which are the core switches. TWO C3750G-24T switches are used to connect the different routers and are made as transparent.

Access switches are connected to the core switch to Data Centre using 1000BaseT SFP modules. The Domain controller is connected to the core switch. All PCs and Cisco IP Phones are connected to the access switches.

Two ASA 5510 are installed to secure the access for LAN Users and enforce additional security and redundancy.

CISCO 2821-CCME/K9 Router is configured for dedicated connectivity to Newedge London using two 2MBPS leased line. The customer has less Cisco IP Phones so CCME was the cheapest solution

Q: What is the AT penetration of this solution?

A:  CISCO ASA 5510 has been deployed as the Gateway level security.

Q: Why did the customer choose Cisco over competitors?

A:  The customer chose Cisco over other products was because they have been using Cisco globally across all locations.

Q: What business challenge was the customer facing?

A:  There was no challenge which the customer was facing. The customer was setting up a new office in Dubai and hence the Infrastructure need for them

Q: How did the solution help customer overcome these challenges?

A:  The present solution enables the customer to connect to their HO and also to Bloomberg for business transaction purposes. The Infrastructure is core to the business for Newedge and the failure of the systems can affect the business to a large extent.
Hence, the design we have provided the customer has helped them have redundancies across all his critical sites.

Q: What are the overall business benefits of the implemented solution to the customer?

A:  There would be no disruption in the financial data or internet connection as there are 2 lines for every type of connections

  1. Internet - etisalat (local service provider) was chosen for that. There are 2 routers for internet connectivity on which redundancy has been applied.
  2. LONDON connectivity - 2 lease lines have been chosen for the connectivity with redundancy applied on it. Du is the service provider for that.
  3. Financial Transactions - 2 lease lines have been chosen from Bloomberg (Financial & DATA Services Company) with redundancy applied on it by bloomberg service provider itself.

The routers are of 2600 series.

  1. Security- Two ASA 5510 has been chosen for security as well as for redundancy.
  2. IP TELEPHONY:- The customer has very less no. of Cisco IP Phones so for this 2 CISCO2821-CCME/K9 routers were used for the Cisco IP Phones connectivity which is the cheapest solution.

Q: How will the solution impact the customer's products/services extended to its employees, customers and partners?

A:  The customers can transfer data at a good speed and can have lower response time.

The IP Telephony solution would offer transmission of voice and hence they can communicate to their Head Office using the same pipe which is used for data transmission.

Q: What future plans does this customer have with this partner?

A:  The customer has aggressive plans of expansion in future where they can look at upgrading the infrastructure as the need will be. As of now for couple of months they will observe the present infrastructure to see how it is performing.
