United Nations Volunteer Programme:
- Sri Lanka - Mohan Liyange joined on March 1, 2009 and is hosted at SLIIT academy, Colombo.
- Bangladesh - Nazia Ahmed joined on July 1, 2009 and is hosted at BRAC, Dhaka.
- Subhrakanta Pattanayak joined on August 13 and is stationed at Webel, Kolkatta.
Regional Highlights
Bangladesh:
1st National Cisco Skills Competition Hosted at AIUB, this witnessed 34 teams competing in a close battle of wits and networking puzzles. Congratulations to the winners who will participate in the SAARC slated for mid-October.
Curriculum Workshop - BRAC BRAC conducted this workshop to enable existing and potential academies to learn about the various Cisco curriculum offerings. The workshop included a Q & A with major employers across several verticals who answered student queries on job profiles, remuneration and career development.
Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) is the first defence academy to sign up for the programme in the SAARC region. In addition, East West University (Bangladesh) has also come on board.
Sri Lanka:
National Vocational Training Authority (NVTA) signed up as an Academy and will offer CCNA curriculum at three locations: Colombo, Kandy and Baddegama, with the latter focusing on rural female ICT education.
India:
Expansion of Rajasthan Technical Education MOU saw four new academies, including two Engineering Colleges being added to the MoU. Technical institutes of Rajasthan have also launched ITE and CCNA training for BPL (Below Poverty Line) students to empower them with additional skills in the IT job market.
Dr. Reddy Foundation (DRF) has sent additional facilitators from their other centres for training on the IT Essentials Course to expand the academy offering to states beyond Andhra Pradesh, namely Orissa, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
IT Essentials PC Hardware and Software curricula have been released in Hindi and are available for download from Academy Connection. Under Course Materials choose Hindi as the preferred language and select version 4.0 of the curriculum.
