RVS4000 Firmware v1.2.10 Release Note 9/02/2008

*******************************************************************************
* Please reset the router to factory default settings after firmware upgrade. *
*******************************************************************************

Changes:

1. Fixed the issue that Vista QuickVPN Client cannot connect to RVS4000 when
the Client is behind a NAT device.
2. Fixed the issue that QuickVPN Client cannot re-connect to RVS4000 without
rebooting the router after the tunnel is up for an extended period.
3. Fixed the issue that FTP does not work when MAC Clone is enabled.
4. Fixed the issue that FTP file transfer will slow down significantly when
there is a large number of small-sized files invloved.
5. Fixed the issue that IP Based ACL cannot regulate FTP service.
6. Fixed the issue that Port Forwarding does not work when IPS is disabled.
7. Fixed the issue that Port 443 cannot be forwarded to a LAN PC, when QuickVPN
or Remote Management is using the port. With this firmware, configuration
leading to a port conflict will result in a pop-up warning.
8. Support port forwarding to multiple VLANs/subnets.
9. Fixed the issue that VPN tunnel cannot reconnect automatically when the
DDNS WAN IP address of RVS4000 is changed by ISP.
10. Fixed the issue that VPN Tunnel Name with a space character will lead to
    tunnel not able to connect.
11. Fixed the issue that System Up Time displayed incorrectly in SNMP browsers.
12. Fixed some SIP ALG issues that led to one-way audio.
13. Removed the support for NAPT-PT. RVS4000 will use 6to4 tunnel to connect
IPv6 hosts in the LAN to IPv6 hosts in remote IPv6 islands.
14. Updated the IPS Signature to version 1.38.
15. Support ProtectLink Gateway, which requires a subscription.

Known Issues:

1. There is a known issue with Windows XP SP2 Firewall - ICMP packets are
always dropped by the Firewall when the Firewall is enabled. The issue will
cause the QuickVPN Client not being able to establish a tunnel with the
remote QuickVPN Server successfully. Microsoft has released a patch to fix
this issue. Once you install the patch, the issue should be resolved.
   http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889527/en-us
2. Saving the configuration of port forwarding or port triggering rules will
cause the router to restart the firewall module, which can cause a temporary
lockup of the router for 10-15 sec.
3. QoS Rate Control has no effect when IPS is disabled.
4. DHCP Relay is not supported when when multiple VLANs are created.
5. DHCPv6 Server may stop working sometimes, but it will not affect IPv4 hosts
   in the LAN.
6. IPS cannot block eMule 0.48a.
7. Number of VPN Tunnels Available may show incorrectly in the VPN>Summary page.

* Please reset the router to factory default settings after firmware upgrade. *
*******************************************************************************

Issues Fixed:

1. Fixed an IPSec VPN tunnel issue, where a tunnel cannot be established when
both ends use DDNS for WAN connection.
2. Fixed a frewall issue with ports 23 and 5190.
3. Passed Vista Logo tests.

Known Issues:

1. QuickVPN Client v1.2.5 or newer, when running on Windows Vista, cannot connect to RVS4000 nor WRVS4400N when Vista is behind a Network Address Translation (NAT) device. The problem does not occur to QuickVPN Client running on Windows XP or 2000. This was caused by the change in Windows OS behavior. For more information, please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944335/en-us.

2. There is a known issue with Windows XP SP2 Firewall - ICMP packets are always dropped by the Firewall when the Firewall is enabled. The issue will cause the QuickVPN Client not being able to establish a tunnel with the remote QuickVPN Server successfully. Microsoft has released a patch to fix this issue. Once you install the patch, the issue should be resolved.

3. Saving the configuration of port forwarding or port triggering rules will cause the router to restart the firewall module, which can cause a temporary lockup of the router for 10-15 sec.

4. RVS4000 behind a NAT device cannot establish an IPSec tunnel with another RVS4000.
5. The IPv6 NAPT-PT feature does not work, which will cause IPv6 hosts not able to access IPv4 resources on the internet. Users are advised to use 6to4 when there are IPv6 hosts in the LAN.
6. QoS Rate Control has no effect.
7. DHCP Relay is not supported when when multiple VLANs are created.
8. There exist some issues with SIP ALG, which may cause one-way audio problems.

***Due to the new features supported in this new firmware, the configuration files of earlier firmware (i.e. v1.0.x) cannot be used after the firmware is upgraded to v1.1.x. Please reset the router to factory default after upgrading the firmware and configure the router from scratch. In case you want to revert the firmware back to earlier firmware, it is recommended that you first export the current configuration before upgrading the firmware.***

New Features:

1. Support Auto 6to4 - no need to specify the IP addresses of 6to4 gateways.
2. Allow SIP Application Layer Gateway (ALG) to be enabled/disabled on the Firewall->Basic page. (Note: SIP ALG can be enabled to facilitate the SIP packets traversing the NAT/Firewall. This feature can be disabled when the VoIP service provider is using other NAT Traversal solutions such as STUN, TURN, and ICE.)

Issues Fixed:

1. Fixed an issue with Bandwidth Management causing the router to crash.
2. Fixed some performance issues with firmware v1.1.09.
3. Introduced Tagged mode and Untagged mode in the VLAN Port Setting page. (Removed General mode and Access mode.)
4. Added a warning message that will pop up upon adding a QVPN user if the router's LAN IP is the default 192.168.1.1.
5. Fixed an issue that DHCPv6 client cannot get an IP address from the DHCPv6 server.

6. Allow DHCP Static IP addresses to be assigned outside the address pool of the DHCP Server.
7. Increased the idle timeout of the Web Admin Interface from 5 minutes to 15 minutes.
8. Updated the Daylight Saving feature. Beginning in 2007, the effective dates for Daylight Savings Time (DST) in the United States and Canada changed. The period of Daylight Savings Time will be 4 weeks longer than before - beginning 3 weeks earlier in Spring and ending 1 week later in Fall. DST will now begin on the second Sunday in March (March 11, 2007) and end on the first Sunday in November (November 4, 2007).
9. Updated the help page of QoS.

6. Firewall supports IP-based ACL (Access Control List). Up to 50 rules are supported.
7. Single Port Forwarding allows the external port to be different from the internal port.
8. IPSec VPN supports remote gateway defined by a DDNS domain name.
9. QuickVPN supports self-generated certificate on the VPN Client Accounts page.
10. QoS supports bandwidth management (layer-3 QoS).
11. QoS supports DSCP/CoS/port-based QoS (layer-2 QoS).
12. Logging supports multiple severity levels.
13. Email Alert supports SMTP Authentication.
14. L2 Switch supports (up to four) 802.1q-based VLANs, port mirroring, and RSTP.
15. DHCP Server (in the Setup->LAN page) supports multiple subnets, once multiple VLANs are created.
16. Support routing between VLANs, which can be enabled/disabled in the Setup->Advanced Routing page.
17. Support SIP Application Layer Gateway.

Issues Fixed:

1. Fixed the issue that port 443 cannot be forwarded to a LAN IP address. (When port 443 is forwarded, QuickVPN will operate on port 60443.)
2. Fixed an issue with port 443 where the port is always open on the firewall.
3. Fixed an issue with some cable modem where RVS4000 cannot get an WAN IP address using DHCP.

6. Fixed an issue that the DHCP server cannot support hostnames with more than 15 characters.
7. Fixed an UPnP vulnerability issue with port forwarding.

Known Issues:

1. The Help page of the QoS page contains errors. There is no user interface widget to enable/disable QoS - the QoS feature is always enabled. To configure the QoS, the trust mode of a port can be set to either Port, CoS, or DSCP. When the trust mode is set to Port, the priority of the port can be set to 1, 2, 3, or 4 (highest priority).

When the trust mode is set to CoS, the priority of an incoming ethernet frame is determined by the CoS bits in the frame. The CoS Setup table specifies how each CoS value (0~7) is mapped to Queue 1~4 (4 being the highest priority). If an incoming frame does not have CoS bits set, the frame will be tagged with the default CoS value associated with the port the frame comes from.

When the trust mode is set to DSCP, the priority of an incoming ethernet frame is determined by the DSCP bits in the IP header. The DSCP Setup table specifies how each DSCP value (0~63) is mapped to Queue 1~4 (4 being the highest priority).

2. The Inter-VLAN Routing feature cannot be enabled/disabled when the WAN port is down, although the Web UI can save the configuration. Please ensure the WAN port is up when enabling or disabling Inter-VLAN Routing.
