Cisco and its employees are committed to giving back and corporate and social responsibility is a key component of our culture. As such, we're proud to be long-time supporters of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and its tremendous work to help youth build the confidence and skills they need to succeed. In keeping with our commitment to help make our communities stronger, we will be directing a portion of the proceeds from the admission cost for Cisco Connect to sponsor the Boys and Girls Club's National Youth Forum.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada's National Youth Forum, Oasis, held every two years is an event that brings together over 200 Boys and Girls Clubs youth, aged 15 to 19, from across Canada to develop new skills and gain knowledge from experts and each other.

Together, youth discuss ways to make their future - and the future of all Canadian young people - a better one.

Cisco Connect Toronto Green Plan
On May 30th, together, we can all complete 10,000 or more acts of green and contribute to the many other acts being performed across the globe for a cleaner, friendly and sustainable environment.

What you can do:

  • Use public transportation (GO Transit or the TTC) to travel to the Toronto Congress Centre North Building. Click here for directions and information
  • If you need to take a taxi or drive, plan ahead and try sharing the taxi ride or carpool with a friend.  Click here for directions
  • Use the biodegradable water cups at the many water stations located around the venue
  • Return your badge and badge holder on your way out of the Conference
  • Unplug your phone charger when not in use
  • Dispose your cans and newspapers in the provided recycling bins

What Cisco and our Partners are doing:

  • The onsite Mobile App will give all attendees easy access to the Agenda, Session list and Speakers, and online Conference Guide at their fingertips.
  • In the meals area, water will be self-service rather than pre-set with filled glasses.
  • No disposable water bottles will be available. Water coolers will be available on-site to refill your own biodegradable cups
  • We've made efforts to conduct most of our marketing campaigns online this year
  • Recycle units will be placed in high traffic areas
  • Cardboard will be recycled through the Congress Centre's dumpsters
  • Unused food will be donated to a local food bank.

Our vendor, Creative Visual Services (CVS), outfits the Exhibit Hall through a rental program which in itself is essentially a green business model as materials are recycled and reused. This includes exhibits, displays, kiosks, flooring, furnishings and AV equipment. At the end of amortization, the equipment is donated to UNICEF or Salvation Army.

Under their rental structure, CVS ensures that the aluminum used for creating structure is light creating less of a carbon footprint than heavier alloys. The aluminum structure can be customized, reused and reconfigured to create a variety of shapes. As the components become too small or damaged for reuse, they are collected and recycled at the metal recycling facility. This process produces no waste.

Click here to read more about the green initiatives in place at the Toronto Congress Centre, the venue of Cisco Connect 2013!
