Evolution in the Data Centre
In many ways, Cisco's Unified Computing System (UCS) represents an evolutionary change for the traditional data centre. UCS promises to unite compute, network, storage access and virtualisation resources into a single, energy-efficient system that can reduce IT infrastructure costs and complexity - but how will this affect your data centre strategy? During this 30 minute, highly-interactive presentation Dimension Data's Enterprise Architect Jon Farrell will discuss not only what changes you can expect to the data centre, but also what stays the same. It's a great opportunity to get real insight into the impact of UCS on the IT enterprise.

Automating the Virtual DataCentre
One of the most disruptive and highly anticipated technologies to hit datacenters this year is Cisco's Unified Computing System (UCS).The Cisco UCS, with dynamic provisioning enabled by BMC, dramatically reduces the time required to deliver new virtualized services, simply, reliably, and securely. A fully integrated turnkey solution that's pre-built, tested and serviced as an integrated product for the virtualized data center addresses the complexity and operational constraints data centers face today. Anticipating the Management issues of virtualization and traditional Data Center silos, Cisco developed a unified approach that simplifies the architecture and enables ease of management from a single management domain and console, including the automated provisioning and re-provisioning of the hardware, and software resources. This presentation will explore the power of the Cisco UCS and how purpose-built virtualization-enabling hardware, software, and management tools are taking virtual data centers to the next level and improving IT's ability to support the business. Hear how the integration of network, compute, and virtualization radically reduces the number of devices requiring setup, management, cabling, power and cooling to reduce site costs by up to 20%, platform costs by 15% and, with the inclusion of BMC's BladeLogic, organizational costs by as much as 35%.

EMI and Layer 1 in Data Centres - Best Practices for maximum performance!
The introduction of copper-based infrastructure supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet in Data Centres has picked up pace in the last 12 months. Much has been discussed regarding the merits of copper media types suitable for such applications. Copper media are also under consideration for the next killer application - 40G/100G Ethernet! Convergence of different application fabrics in SANS has also been a driver for copper media and their suitability over the medium to long term. A most important issue for consideration in copper media in the data centre environment is Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI). The data centre is a harsh EMI environment and the most suitable copper medium is one that provides protection from EMI under all operational conditions and enhances the efficiency of the data centre through reduction of energy consumption, space minimization and reduced downtime. Making the right decision about the physical layer is crucial for achieving the data centre operational objectives.
