Software Upgrade

When the modem is first initialized, before it downloads the DOCSIS configuration file, the modem gets on the network temporarily and connects to the DHCP server to find out what its IP address is, what its downstream and upstream assignments are, and where it needs to get the DOCSIS configuration file.

The modem then gets a TFTP server so that it can download the DOCSIS configuration file. This might not be the same TFTP server as the TFTP server that downloads the Cisco IOS software image. The user might want two TFTP servers to download: (1) DOCSIS configuration files, and (2) Cisco IOS software images.

To set up this unique Cisco IOS software image TFTP server, the following information is entered by the user to specify the IP address of the TFTP server and to specify the software image filename of the Cisco IOS software image to be downloaded from the unique TFTP server. This information is entered only when downloading a new Cisco IOS software image.

TFTP Server IP

Specifies the IP address for the TFTP server that will provide Cisco IOS software images. This server does not necessarily have to be the same TFTP server that provided the DOCSIS configuration file. (For information on IP addressing, see the RFC 1918 specification.)

Example: 10.2.2.1

Filename

Specifies the fully qualified path name for the Cisco IOS software image that the modem should be running. If necessary, the modem will download this image from a TFTP server.

Example: ubr920-k1sv4y556i-mz.120-5.T1 (Cisco IOS 12.0 T software image filename)
