Q:  Do some software features require particular hardware?

top
Q:  When is a Cisco IOS Software feature license required?
A:  In some cases, additional value-added functionality is provided in Cisco IOS Software Images but not covered by the "base" Cisco IOS Software License. The right to use these features is offered through a Feature License. For example, to use NetFlow Switching on a Cisco 7200 series platform, the WAN Packet Protocol/Netflow Feature License, FR-WPP72, is required.

Note: A feature license conveys the right to use a feature, but it cannot add a feature to a software release that does not support it. For example, purchasing a WAN Packet Protocols/NetFlow license will not upgrade the software to support NetFlow.

Q:  What is the memory information displayed with the Image Info on the Cisco Feature Navigator results page?
A:  This is the amount of DRAM and Flash Memory recommended for the use with that particular image.
top
Q:  How can I know the maximum amount of memory for my product?
A:  The Cisco Sales Tools Central web site shows the maximum memory and slot information for many product families under the "Tech Central" section at: www.cisco.com/go/tools
top
Q:  Why is there no product code displayed for my Feature Set listing in Cisco Feature Navigator?
A:  Most Feature Set listing results in CFN will include the Product Code; however some Cisco IOS images may be available as downloads from the Software Center, but may not be orderable through Cisco's ordering processes. In this case, no product code is assigned; older releases or rebuilds are examples where this could be the case.
top
Q:  Do Cisco Feature Navigator descriptions match the product literature?
A:  Cisco Feature Navigator and product documentation will come from the same source, beginning with Release 12.1.  This should eliminate future inconsistencies.
top
