Configure Cisco Easy VPN Remote on a Router




Introduction

Cisco Easy VPN Remote allows Cisco routers to receive security policies upon connection to a Cisco Easy VPN Server, minimizing configuration requirements at the remote location. This document explains how to configure Cisco Easy VPN Remote on your router.

Note: This document uses examples from SDM version 2.0. Other versions of SDM can display different output.

Configure Cisco Easy VPN Remote on a Router

Follow these steps to set up a Cisco Easy VPN Server on your router:

Configure Easy VPN Remote

Follow these steps to configure an Easy VPN Remote:

  1. Open a web browser and type http:// router-IP-address in the Address field. Use the IP address that you entered in field L6A of the LAN Addressing Worksheet. Press Enter to launch SDM. For more information about how to launch SDM, refer to Configure your Router with Security Device Manager.

  2. Click Configure.

  3. Click VPN.

  4. On the VPN Screen, click Easy VPN Remote.

  5. On the Create Easy VPN Remote Screen, click Launch the selected task.

  6. On the Configure a Primary Easy VPN Remote Connection screen, click Next.

  7. On the Connection Information screen, enter these settings:

    • In the Easy VPN tunnel name field, enter the tunnel name for this connection that you entered in field R21 of the Internet worksheet.

    • In the Easy VPN Server 1 field, enter the IP address or Hostname of the Easy VPN Server that you entered in field R33 of the Internet Worksheet.

    • In the Group field, enter the Group name that you entered in field R21 of the Internet Worksheet.

    • For Key, enter the Key from field R22 of the Internet Worksheet. Enter the key again in the Re-enter Key field.

    • Click Next.

  8. On Connection Characteristics screen, choose these values:

    • In the Mode field, choose Client.

    • In the Control field, choose Auto.

    Click Next.

  9. On the User Authentication (XAuth) screen, check Save Xauth username and password on the router and enter these values:

    • Next to Username, enter the Remote VPN User name that you entered in field R40 of the Internet Worksheet.

    • Next to Password, enter the Remote VPN User password.

    • Next to Confirm Password, re-enter the Remote VPN User password.

  10. On the Interfaces screen, enter these values:

    • For outside interface, choose the interface of your WAN connection that you entered in field B37 of the Router Worksheet.

    • For inside interface, check the LAN interface that you entered in field B35 of the Router Worksheet.

  11. On the summary screen, click Finish to complete the VPN wizard. Click OK to confirm.

  12. Click the Save icon to save the new configuration.
