Picking up where Packet Magazine left off, the Cisco Technical Services Newsletter is now carrying New Reader Tips. These Reader Tips are submitted by IT professionals just like you, and can be a useful source of information.

Beginning with this issue, we will post one new Reader Tip a month, like the one below:

Record Device Serial Numbers

Our secret is to always put the serial number of each device in the Banner MOTD, and the circuit IDs in the serial interface descriptions. That way, when working remotely from home, telneted into the device, we don't have to go to some other source for that information should we need to contact a provider or the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC).

CCIE Central - UPDATE:
Important Update on CCIE Security Written Exam v2.0 and Beta Testing

The CCIE Security written exam v2.0 -- originally scheduled to replace v1.0 in early January 2007 -- was recently released as a beta exam at all Cisco-authorized testing centers and will remain available until January 23, 2007. Beta exams are offered at a discounted price of US$50, with full recertification or lab qualification credit granted to all passing candidates. Candidates preparing for this exam should refer to CCIE Security Written Exam Blueprint v2.0 (351-018) for a detailed outline of the topics covered.

Note: Candidates may only attempt a beta exam once during the beta period and individual scores are generally available six to eight weeks after the close of the beta period.

The CCIE Security written exam v1.0 will continue to be offered at all worldwide testing centers until March 31, 2007.
