| The goal of
the planning process is that network architects
or planners will create a customized plan for
deploying a Cisco EGW 2200 Enterprise Gateway
application in your enterprise telephony network.
The plan will include identifiying the components
and technology needed to implement your selected
application. Worksheets capture information needed
before installing and provisioning your application.
Before You Begin: No
prerequisites except that working with your Cisco
consultant you have selected an application or
combination of applications. See the Cisco
EGW 2200 Applications Overview for a description
of applications.
When You Are Done Planning:
You will have a completed Cisco
EGW Installation Worksheet and Cisco
EGW Provisioning Worksheet. Go on to the Installation
process.
Planning Tasks
Read the Cisco
EGW IPT Solution Reference Network Design
(right-click to download the PDF) for deployment
options and detailed configuration examples.
Assess
the readiness of your network: Determine what
you need to do to prepare your network for IP
telephony.
Identify
the components you need: Based on the application
you have selected, determine the components required,
including the recommended hardware and software.
Use the Compatibility
Matrix to guide you, referring to Component
Details for detailed component-level requirements
and information, and to the specific description
of your application for a "bill of materials"
for that application.
Plan
for redundancy. Decide if you need a fault-tolerant
network, understand the failover behavior of network
components (Cisco EGW 2200, Cisco CallManager
interfaces, H.323 gatekeepers, and Cisco Unity
servers as relevant in your application), and
how to use this information to plan a system with
optimum fault tolerance.
Plan
for installation. Be prepared with the information
you need for installing the Cisco EGW 2200 and
other components.
Plan
for provisioning. Be prepared to provision
the Cisco EGW 2200 with necessary information
on your application components, such as a media
gateway, Cisco CallManager, dial plan, etc.
