Before You Begin:

Procedure to Provision a Cisco Unity Application

Task Steps

Task 1. Configure communication between Cisco EGW and your DPNSS or QSIG PBX.

If you have already done this as part of provisioning Cisco CallManager applications, skip this step.

  1. Configure the DPNSS or QSIG gateway to communicate with the Cisco EGW:

Do one of the following depending on your PBX protocol and gateway:

  1. Open Cisco EGW Administration.
  2. (If the gateway is on a different subnet from Cisco EGW) In Cisco EGW Administration, add an IP route for the gateway. Refer to Cisco EGW Administration online help for details.
  3. In Cisco EGW Administration, provision a DPNSS or QSIG media gateway:
    1. Add a media gateway and enter the basic gateway configuration. Skip Dial Plan until dial plans have been created later in this procedure). Click Update.

Adding a gateway creates a route to the gateway, named in the form rt-unity#-0-1 where unity# is the name of the Unity server. You can use this route in creating route plans and dial plans.

    1. (If you want to change default MGCP properties) Click Properties and make desired changes.
    2. Add T1 or E1 DPNSS or QSIG spans.
    3. (If you want to change default DPNSS or QSIG features) Click Properties and make desired changes.
  1. In Cisco EGW Administration, verify connectivity:
  • Verify that Signaling Path State for T1 or E1 spans is In Service.
Task 2. Configure communication between Cisco Unity and Cisco EGW.
  1. Configure Cisco Unity to work with Cisco EGW. On Cisco Unity:
    1. Provision the SIP interface. Refer to Configuring Cisco Unity for Cisco EGW Integration for details.
    2. Enter directory numbers and users.
  2. Open Cisco EGW Administration. Provision the Cisco Unity SIP interfaces.

Refer to Cisco EGW Administration online help on this topic for details.

  1. Verify communication by placing a PBX to Unity call.
Task 3. Create route plans and dial plans.

In Cisco EGW Administration, do the following:

  1. Create route plans according to the information you established in Planning for Your Cisco EGW Route Plan.
  2. Create dial plans according to the information you established in Planning for Your Cisco EGW Dial Plan.

In Cisco EGW Administration online help, refer to the topic, About Creating Routes, Route Plans, and Dial Plans.

Task 4. Assign a dial plan to the Unity SIP interface.
  1. In Cisco EGW Administration, update the SIP interface created above, selecting a dial plan.
  2. In Cisco EGW Administration online help, refer to the topic, About Creating Routes, Route Plans, and Dial Plans.
Task 5. Verify DPNSS or QSIG voicemail features.
  1. Leave voicemail and ensure that MWI (message waiting indicator) is set.
  2. Delete all voicemail and ensure that MWI is cleared.
Task 6. Verify Auto Attendant feature. Make a call into the Auto Attendant that requires a Release Transfer to an extension on the PBX.
