Products Affected
VIP2-based Cisco 7500 and Cisco 7200 systems using one of the following FDDI Port Adapters:
-
PA-F/FD-MM
-
PA-F/FD-SM
-
PA-F-MM
-
PA-F-SM
Problem Description
A problem has been found affecting FDDI Port Adapters installed in VIP2-based Cisco 7500 and Cisco 7200 systems. These conditions could cause one of the described failures in Cisco 7200 systems and single FDDI port adapter VIP configurations in Cisco 7500 systems. Occurrence of these conditions is expected to be rare.
Cisco recommends the replacement of these FDDI port adapters at your earliest convenience.
In VIP configurations, the addition of any second port adapter increases the likelihood of encountering these failure conditions. It is strongly recommended that you promptly replace these FDDI port adapters.
Note:?See information contained in this Field Notice on proper procedures for FDDI port adapter replacements.
Symptoms
Using FDDI Port Adaptors could result in several anomalous system behavior including:
-
output stuck errors
-
dropped datagrams
-
possibly other anomalous errors
This symptom may occur more frequently under continual high load (wire-rate) traffic.
Workaround/Solution
To follow the bug ID link below and see detailed bug information, you must be a registered user and you must be logged in.
To resolve this, a hardware change was made to the FDDI Port Adaptors. This change will allow FDDI Port Adaptors to work with any combination of port adaptor and will change the hardware revisions (HW rev) to the following levels:
|
Port Adapter |
New Revision Level |
|---|---|
|
PA-F-MM |
PN 73-1558-02 Rev. C0 HW-V 1.3 or PN 73-1558-05 Rev. A0 HW-V 1.13 |
|
PA-F-SM |
PN 73-1630-02 Rev. C0 HW-V 1.3 or PN 73-1630-05 Rev. A0 HW-V 1.13 |
|
PA-F/FD-MM |
PN 73-2138-03 Rev. A0 HW-V 1.13 |
|
PA-F/FD-SM |
PN 73-2139-03 Rev. A0 HW-V 1.13 |
To determine the current revision of your FDDI Port Adapter, perform the global command show diag:
Cisco7513>show diag
