Problem Description

Revision 02 of the T1/E1 Primary Rate Interface (PRI) Network Modules for the Cisco 3600-series routers was programmed with an incorrect microcode version. If your router is one of the affected ones, you may notice the following symptoms:

On the Cisco 3600 the watchdog timer causes timeouts under a heavy ISDN PRI load.

Revision 02 of the ISDN and Channelized Serial Network Modules are not compatible with the Digital Modem Network Module.
TDM errors occur (as seen in the output of the show modem command and in console messages) when you are using the Digital Modem Network Module.
Digital modems may re-train, shift speeds, or disconnect calls.

The watchdog timeouts will not occur with revision 01 of the T1/E1 Network Modules. These problems are fixed in revision 03 of these Network Modules.

Solution

The revisions of the network modules with the fix are listed in Table 1. You can examine the network module revision on the network module itself, or use the Cisco IOS show diag command.

The following is an example of the output of the Cisco IOS show diag command issued on a Cisco 3640 router with a NM-1CT1-CSU network module card in slot 3. This network module needs to be upgraded to revision 03:
