The 15454-M-CFP-LC= (or CFP-LC) card requires the peer 15454-M-100G-LC-C= (or 100G-LC) card in adjacent slots (lower peer and/or upper peer) in the M6 shelf. The CFP-LC card faces a problem for all payload types as described in these scenarios:
- When the 100G-LC card is only a lower peer to the CFP-LC card, traffic does not flow through.
- In Transponder mode, if there are two 100G-LC cards as the lower peer and upper peer to the CFP-LC card, then the card works correctly. However, when the 100G-LC card on the top slot is removed, the CFP ports go in Squelch state and there is no traffic flow.
Cards built since November 21, 2012 require a software upgrade. These cards are referenced in the "How To Identify Hardware Levels" section.
Traffic does not come up on the client ports of CFP-LC. Transmit Power is reported in CTC as -40dBm.
As a workaround, use the 100G-LC card as the upper-peer to the CFP-LC card. The valid slot combinations for the CFP-LC and the 100G-LC peer card are captured in Table 11-36 of the Cisco ONS 15454 DWDM Configuration Guide, Release 9.6.x.
The issue will be fixed in Release 18.104.22.168 which is scheduled to be available on Cisco.com on July 15, 2013. If the configuration does not require the 100G-LC card to be a lower-peer, then there is no need for a workaround.
If there is an impacted configuration, as highlighted in the "Problem Description" section, then there are two options to bring the card to the proper state. If traffic flows through CFP-LC, then complete one of these options for the CFP-LC card in a maintenance window as it impacts traffic.
Option A: Remove and then reinsert the CFP-LC card into the shelf to complete a hard reset.
Option B: In order to bring the CFP-LC card to a proper state and avoid a site visit, complete these steps with the use of Cisco Transport Controller (CTC):
- Upgrade the Node Software to Release 22.214.171.124 or later.
- Set both ports to the Out of Service (OOS) state.
- Make a note of the current payload and delete the payload on both ports.
- Configure a new payload on two ports per this table:

- Set both ports to the In Service (IS) state and wait for about 3 minutes.
- Set both ports to the OOS state.
- Delete the payload on both ports.
- Configure the original payload which was configured before step 2 for two ports.
- Set both ports to the IS state.
This brings the CFP-LC card into a proper state which allows traffic flow.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
Cards that begin with serial number CAT1646XXXX and were shipped since November 21, 2012 are affected. However, cards shipped before this date are not affected.
The serial number can be retrieved from the Inventory pane of CTC or can be viewed on the card where it is physically labeled.
