Problem Description
If a user configures CSM virtual server via the CLI with a netmask and later modifies CSM virtual server properties through the HSE GUI Configure > Configuration tree, the vserver functionality will break. There is no indication from either HSE or CSM that the vserver is no longer functional.
Affected HSE/HSS: 1.8 and newer
Affected CSM: CSM 3.2 and newer
Background
In CSM DTD (accessible with link below)
CSM XML Document Type Definition
The optional 'ipmask' line below is not considered by HSE/HSS:
sense (yes | no) #IMPLIED ipaddress NMTOKEN #REQUIRED ipmask NMTOKEN "255.255.255.255" protocol NMTOKEN #REQUIRED port NMTOKEN #REQUIRED service (none | ftp | rtsp | termination | per-packet) "none" >
Problem Symptoms
If a user modifies CSM vserver properties, the save operation will not pass the ipmask in XML and CSM will then reset the netmask to 255.255.255.255. This effectively makes the virtual server non-operational.
Workaround/Solution
If a CSM vserver is provisioned through the CLI, further changes must be made through the CLI instead of using HSE/HSS Configure > Configuration.
If you are not sure if the values have been changed through the CLI, please use the CLI for further provisioning. Also, it is highly recommended that customers use HSE/HSS for monitoring, thresholding, and activation/suspension.
