Problem Description
Some Cisco Building Broadband Service Manager (BBSM) BB-SM-SERVER5.3A servers were shipped with the internal Network Interface Card (NIC) enabled. This will cause connectivity failure during customer installation.
Background
BBSM does not support more than two physical NICs. BBSMs have an external NIC card installed. If the internal Broadcom NICS are not disabled, the BBSM does not function properly and causes connectivity failure on the Cisco installed Network Interface Card. The system gives priority to the internal NICs instead of the external one.
Problem Symptoms
A common symptom where the Broadcom NIC is enabled is connectivity failure.
Workaround/Solution
The Broadcom NICs should be disabled in the BIOS. To disable the NIC in the BIOS, follow the steps below:
-
Press F2 while the system is booting to enter BIOS setup.
-
Use the right arrow keys to select the Advanced menu tab in the BIOS.
-
Use the down arrow key to select the OnBoard LAN then press Enter.
-
Use the down arrow key to select Disabled then press Enter.
-
Press F10 to save and Exit.
-
Press to confirm the execution of the Save Changes and Exit command (Ok)
-
The BBSM will now reboot and the update is complete.
