Revised April 12, 2005
March 22, 2005
Products Affected
-
IBM xSeries-346 servers
-
MCS-7835-I1
-
MCS-7845-I1
Problem Description
During the initial installation of the Microsoft Operating System on the identified servers, the Network Interface Connection labeled #2 registers first and is therefore permanently identified by the OS as the Network Interface Connection # 1 interface.
Background
Customers have reported initial installation problems and errors. Cisco engineering has engaged it's suppliers for root cause analysis and final resolution.
Problem Symptoms
Configurations relating to NIC port 1 are actually being configured for NIC port 2, and vice versa. Customers are misled regarding the identity of the network interface, which may result in installation and operational failures in voice applications. For instance, IBM Director indicates NIC port 1 for issues relating to NIC port 2, and vice versa.
