BTS Hardware - BTS10200 Softswitch
Problem Description
This is a proactive field notice to alert the BTS 10200 customers configured with 2 gigabytes of memory about the Cisco recommendations to upgrade to a new minimum memory baseline.
Background
The BTS10200 is a softswitch for broadband and cable applications that addresses the needs of telecommunication markets on a global scale. To incorporate the features and enhancements that are being added, Cisco must periodically revisit minimum configurations and make any necessary adjustments to the guidelines to keep pace with the growing demand for features and table sizing.
Problem Symptoms
Potential reduction in capacity maximum due to increased memory paging and disk I/O activity.
Workaround/Solution
Cisco has re-evaluated the minimum memory requirements for customers planning to continue to operate on the following releases:
It is Cisco's recommendation that customers operating on the RLS 3.x and RLS 4.x applications upgrade their memory to a total of 4 gigabytes in both their Call Agents and EMS's, if not already configured this way. This recommendation is to ensure that the customer's BTS application runs at its most optimum. Systems that remain at 2 gigabytes of memory may experience a slightly reduced maximum capacity level due to increased memory paging and disk I/O activity that could reduce the CPU performance of the BTS 10200.
Beginning with Release 5.0, it is mandatory that the Softswitch hardware be upgraded to a minimum of 4 gigabytes prior to installing Release 5.0, which is planned for the second half of 2005.
